Our upcoming destination was Acadia National Park, a 19-hour drive at RV speed. We allocated 5 days for the journey. First we stopped by Orchard Park, NY, to visit our friends Ray and Carol, whom we knew from our time in Ann Arbor but hadn't seen in over a decade. It's always enjoyable to visit friends, see their living environment, and catch up on their lives. We took a hike, had a lovely dinner and met for breakfast the next morning.
Ray is still collecting and riding his motorcycles. He even built a special garage for them. Retirement is imminent. These two will have some fun!
Always fun to see people's pets - this is Abby. What a sweetheart!
Our dear friends Linda and Drevis were in Ithaca to meet their new grandchild. Perfect! Next stop Ithaca. Ithaca is such a charming town, with its waterfalls and college town vibe. It was a joy to spend time with our friends and their sweet grandchild.
David insisted that we travel through Vermont the next day. Getting a Vermont Cremee (super rich maple flavored soft serve ice cream) was not negotiable. We changed up the route a bit to find one and we were not disappointed. The view was an amazing added bonus.
We finally made it to Maine on our 4th night. The town was York Beach. We had a wonderful clam chowder the evening we arrived. The next morning we drove up a small mountain, biked out to a light house and toured a lovely beach complete with sand dunes.
Off to Acadia - it was a bit of a drive and with all our morning adventures we got to our site just before sunset. The drive-through site was so small! This was a real challenge. Thank goodness for the 4-wheel off-road Ford F350. Cramming into the site involved driving over a stump, removing the bike rack and some general intense moments. But we did it!! Phew! Not too much swearing occurred, and we are still married! Here is a picture of our sweet trailer all crammed into the site.
What an adventure so far!
